Eight major U.S. web companies to include Apple, Facebook, Google, AOL, Microsoft, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Yahoo joined forces to combat the recent government snooping that has been happening lately to protect its users from its online surveillance missions that its been doing. Its about time somebody that has some sort of power to stand up against the government snoops and take back our rights.
They written in an open letter to President Barack Obama and Congress saying the recent revelations showed the balance has gone too far and has tipped in the favor of the state in many countries and away from the individual.
Leaks from the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden exposing some of the top secret government surveillance programs has raised some major concerns which proves that the government has went against some of our rights that are enshrined in our Constitution. "This undermines the freedoms we all cherish and it's time for a change." This is written in the letter that was submitted on Monday 12/10/2013.
We will see how the government reacts to this. I doubt Obama will do anything about this but it is a major move towards the rights of individuals as a whole, not just for the United States citizens but for the whole world wide web.
